Home ›Helen White
Helen is a professional artist who uses traditional working methods and her work includes Gold Leaf Illuminations, Ceramic Tiles and Coasters and Greetings Cards.
Helen's work is frequently inspired by medieval designs, and sources include wood- and stone-carvings, tiles, fabrics, paintings, architecture and glass. Like the medieval craftsmen, she also looks to Creation for inspiration. Geometry underpins Creation - from the tiniest flower (and smaller) to the movement of the planets - and is a reflection of the beauty of Divine order. Using geometric proportions helps to give harmony to designs.
CERAMICS: Helen likes to make items which are beautiful and of practical use. Her tiles and coasters (along with her range of Greetings Cards) are available to view (and buy!) on her stall at the Chesham Local Produce Market (4th Saturdays in Market Square - dates on website).
ILLUMINATIONS: 'Illumination' is the use of gold or other precious metals in leaf or powder form. The traditional techniques used in this work are those used in the wonderful medieval manuscripts created in western Europe.
